SPD

It consists of a medication organisation system that helps patients follow their treatment, so that they know exactly which medicine they should take each day and at what time. Through this system, the patient receives the medication prescribed by their doctor “organised” by their pharmacist in a blister pack containing alveoli where the dosages of the different medicines for each daily intake are introduced. This reduces errors in taking medicines, prevents handling and storage problems, and prevents confusion and involuntary poisoning.

Improving therapeutic adherence

With the joint launch of the SPD, the Andalusian Pharmacy aims to make an effective contribution to improving therapeutic adherence, which is one of the major challenges of the public health system, from a health and economic point of view.

It is estimated that therapeutic non-compliance in Andalusia affects 50% of patients with chronic treatments and 20% of acute patients. Of these patients, more than 360,000 are polymedicated and more than 36,000 take 5 medications daily. Lack of therapeutic adherence can affect up to a third of hospital admissions.

The conclusion, therefore, is that improving adherence to treatment constitutes, first, an improvement in the quality of life of patients, but also one of the best savings measures for the public health system.

Procedure

The procedure for personalized drug dispensing begins with the informed consent of the patients and a prior process of recording and storing their data (personal, health and medication). This prior process culminates with the review of the treatment to rule out possible interactions, contraindications and other problems related to the drug, as well as with the preparation of a definitive patient record.
